Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a site with video and blogs analysing portrayals women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has won awards for her writing, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a website for education that examines women's roles in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Determined to challenge the assumptions associated with women in popular culture, she is also working in highlighting issues relating to targeted harassment against women and the other minorities of people in the online area. The holder of a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in female issues as well as feminism from a young age. In 2009, when she was still studying at university, Sarkeesian launched the site Feminist Frequency. She had a plan to launch a web series on gender representation within video games, and was herself the target for an online harassment campaign. However, the harassment didn't dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position reputation as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards.
